The Jewish holiday of Purim commemorates the account of Queen Esther’s personal courage and bravery to stand alone, using her strategic position that God had placed her in to save her people from genocide by stopping the evil Haman’s plans from going forth to kill all the Jews. She was instrumental in removing him from his position of power.
This Purim is particularly significant as a result of the war with Iran, beginning now at such an auspicious time. Let us also remember the role Mordechai played by encouraging Esther to use her position, saying to her, “Who knows whether you are come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” She recognized the call of God upon her life and asked all the Jews to pray and fast for three days that she might find favor with the King and succeed. May we all pray and fast at this time that the people of Israel be delivered once again from the death threats of their enemies to the glory of God.
